Abstract : Drilling is a process for removing material from a workpiece in order to create a hole. Drilling and Boring are sometimes confused, but the two processes are used for different purposes. The drilling process creates a hole in the workpiece, while the boring process enlarges a preexisting hole. Boring may be used to create closer tolerances and higher quality finishes in drilled holes. Several factors such as tolerances required, desired surface finish, material type, hole size, and depth, production volume, available equipment, safety issues, cost, operator skill, and tool maintenance requirements need to be considered make out differences between Drilling and Boring operation.
