Chapter 7: The Nicobar Islands Abstract: The Nicobar Islands are  a group of islands in the Indian Ocean that are part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands union territory of India . The islands are located in Southeast Asia, between the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal.   Geography: The Nicobar Islands are separated from the Andaman Islands by a 150 km wide channel. The islands include Car Nicobar, Camorta, Nancowry, and Great Nicobar.   History: The islands were part of the British Empire of India.   The Danish gave up their rights to the islands in 1868.   The islands became part of India after it gained independence in 1947.   Tourism:   The islands offer white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and marine life.
