How many Versions of EPUB are in use and why?

The primary versions of EPUB are  EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 . EPUB 2 is an older version that is less flexible than EPUB 3. EPUB 3 is the latest version, offering more features and support for advanced layouts and interactive elements.   Here's a more detailed breakdown: EPUB 2: Developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF). Replaced the older Open eBook (OEB) standard. Offers limited text and image formatting controls. Some publishers still use EPUB 2 files, but it's gradually becoming obsolete.   EPUB 3: A successor to EPUB 2, offering more features and flexibility. Supports HTML, CSS, and SVG for layout and typography. Includes support for video, audio, and interactive features.
