Wrapping Up 2023 and Welcome 2024!
Welcome to the holiday hangover – that annual time when one year is wrapping up while the possibilities of the next lie just ahead.
Now is the time, traditionally, when those habitual new year’s promises – or resolutions – are made. While 2023 may be at its tail end, who knows what 2024 has in store?
Reflecting back on the top stories in our annual Year in Review edition, I can’t help but notice some more negative notes. It seemed, to me at least, that 2023 was kind of a down year. Here we are, on the brink of the winter solstice and the end of 2023. On December 13th there was a spectacular sunrise here. It began with subtle shades of pink and grey, but at its height flamed brilliant orange-red. The photo above doesn’t begin to do it justice.
It does seem a fitting image for an end-of-year post, however. I will be taking a break from publishing new posts until January.
In addition, I’m considering a change to blogging frequency. For years I’ve published some sort of post every Sunday, but in 2024 my posts may appear regularly and / or more frequently in the following social media and blogging platforms, presented below with their links

My reasons: why I will be more frequent on social media and blogging platforms
It’s good to shake things up a bit
house and garden projects
more time for avoiding laziness
more time to read and comment on other blogs
more time to read
more time to write
My thoughts about this include an irrational fear of dropping out of sight and losing followers, and that posting less often is an admission of failure. And that in a way it’s easier to put a post together every week, rather than spend time and energy deciding whether and when to do it. But creating lame posts (or at least posts that feel lame) just to keep to the weekly quota is also a kind of a failure, and a waste of time.
I’m hoping to take more time to appreciate the posts of other bloggers, instead of racing through them because I have to get mine done. That includes visiting the blogs of those who comment on or “like” my posts.
There’s a chance not much will change. I am a creature of habit and may very well slip back into posting once a week. But if I don’t, this is why.
In the meantime, thanks to everyone who read my posts in 2023! Hopefully your support will be continued in the years to come.
